In 1980, at the tender age of ten, BRUCK’LYN, also known as Joern Kocken, orchestrated a daring move that would shape his musical destiny. In his hometown of Krefeld, he pilfered a KRAFTWERK album from a local record shop, an act fueled by the desire to impress his older peers.

“I swiped this album because I was drawn to its captivating cover and the enigmatic title, MENSCH MASCHINE. However, I had no inkling of what musical journey awaited me when I played it on my record player at home. My upbringing was steeped in the typical disco tunes of the ’70s, thanks to my parents.”

As the needle dropped on the first track of MENSCH MASCHINE, BRUCK’LYN found himself in awe of the unprecedented sound emanating from the speakers. It was a departure from anything he had encountered before, an auditory revelation that instantly captured him. Years later, he discovered the serendipitous fact that Ralf Hütter, one of the founding members of Kraftwerk, hailed from his hometown and lived just a few kilometres away.

From that moment on, BRUCK’LYN’s musical odyssey was guided by bands profoundly influenced by Kraftwerk, including Depeche Mode, Pink Floyd, Jean Michel Jarre, New Order, and later, Massive Attack, Moderat, and Odesza—artists who have remained steadfast favourites throughout his journey. Despite his deep-rooted interest in electronic music, it took BRUCK’LYN decades to embark on his own musical production journey.
